Welcome

Following the third year of a holiday letter comprised
of my (increasingly complex) life via a (increasingly complex) year-in-photographs, I
wondered what it would be like to join the great experiment of 365 days of photographs.
I'm not a photographer,
I'm a writer. I'm a visual thinker, and if ever there was proof that a photo is worth a
thousand words, it would be the story a photo tells me, or in this case, about me.
Follow me on this adventure, where I
learn about photography, my ability to record my life, my dedication to something (I've
never been known for doing anything everyday) in my posts. I've also discovered I'm
learning about time, the history of it, and the odd practice of recording it, measuring it,
turning it into something tangible, and I'll record these explorations in the sidebar.
As always, feel free
to say anything. My experiment is not a spectator sport.

March 07 2009 Roll It

First time ever jackpot bowling. As a general rule, I have a hard time conceptualizing if-then statements. So as I bowl I have no idea what I'm bowling for. Someone says, "Oh, that's worth a quarter" and another time, something I think is similar is not. I did have fun playing "poker" for marks, though.

Having left my camera at home, I chose another phone-photo to email to myself.

March 06 2009 Dress Down

The piles of disorganized laundry prompted me to get some real work done. I've decided my closets need to be remodeled. In the meantime, my clothes need to be organized. So here is a pile of shirts. They can't go anywhere until I get new shelves put in.

I am tired and didn't want to take a picture tonight. I hadn't taken one all day. It was kinda a boring dull day.

March 05 2009 Play Me

Out for dinner at our friends'. Turns out we have friends. Kind of weird. After dinner, they broke out the Nerf ping-pong. Heck of a lot of fun we had, sliding over the floor, sneaking in smooth moves, pulling off idiotic stunts, showing off and only able to appear as complete morons. It was a good night. I managed to prove myself the undefeated loser. Yep. Every round, down by more and more. Nothing like having a lot of fun making a fool of one's self.

My favorite kind of shot: long and loose. Didn't really care about anything except getting a shot in for the day, so here it is: simple.

March 04 2009 Get Out

It was a great day and I wanted nothing more than to spend it outside. I was pleased to find it was windy so I wore my hat I was mulling over yesterday. For the occasions where I was indoors, I left my doors open on either side of my house so the wind came through. It was a funny sight to look out my front door and see my Christmas wreath still hanging, but I made it with fresh boughs and it has been in the cold, so it is holding up well. Won't last long though.

I took this from exactly the chair I sit in to communicate with my internet world. Of course, the new found zoom for composition is what I used, until I come up with another technique I want to explore.

March 03 2009 Hats Off

The weather's warming and I'm going to miss my hat. We had 70 degree weather today. I went out without my hat. I had to take a picture of it, all forlorn on the rack. It's not lonely though, the man's hats are there to keep it company. Except the nice summer one being impatient, and the one that's not there.

Stood on my bed clear across the room to get control over the composition in this one. Have to say, pleased with the result.

March 02 2009 Come See

My daughter comes in, tugs on my sleeve, "Mom, you have got to come see the sunset. It is beautiful." She leads me towards the back door as I snag the camera. She points, and I am surprised. My little girly girl has chosen a striking pastel sky, clear and bright against the shadows coming up from behind. The touch of pink, of which I expected would douse the landscape above, is barely visible. My daughter saw fit to fetch me for this sunset.

Camera on landscape, which includes no flash. I worked a bit with the composition by where I stood, how I zoomed, and what was in the frame.

March 01 2009 Top This

Final touches to the house clean up are occurring. During the Mardi Gras I mentioned to our guests that everything in our house is hands-on. The bells were played, the guitars came down, the globe, the pin-head, the magnetic poetry, the books, the piano, the kalediscopes--all touched. I actually had more games and toys for adults, like Slinky and marbles and tops, but they were packed away. Yes, yes, these are adult toys. Have you ever given a Slinky to a child? Right, headache for the parent. Today I sorted my toys.

Macro no flash, nothing special. Camera too close for flash, again, but step-back-and-zoom doesn't quite work for macro.
